Electricity have 2 types of voltage: one is AC which is equal to alternating current, and the other is DC which is equal to direct current. AC and DC come from the English terms such as AC = ‘Alternating Current’ and DC which is ‘Direct Current.

duty cycle

Duty cycle is the number of times the winch can operate before the engine gets too hot and burns off, usually expressed as a % of the game’s “on” hour.

For example, if the “duty cycle” is set to 60%, it means that the winch can work for 6 min. and then have to cool down for 4 min. Normal duty cycle for DC games is 20-25, which means a working time of 20-25min followed by a cooling down time of 35-40 min.

Roller fairlead

Roller Fairlead (Feed Rollers)

Helps to change the direction of the wire and helps with placement on the reel/drum of the winch. The optimal roll-in (perpendicular to the reel of the winch) is not ensured with a Roller Fairlead, which is only a help. Use a “sheave”:

Alu Fairlead

Aluminium Hawse Fairled

Aluminium Hawse Fairled for Synthetic Wire (Aluminium Hawse Fairlead)

Aluminum hawse fairlead is designed for use with synthetic wire. This avoids damage to the wire when pulling through the steel fairlead roller, where splinters can damage the structure of the synthetic wire.

“Standard” winches

“Standard” means electric winches 12v/24v mass-produced pull and lift winches. For the most part, these are designed for occasional use. These products can therefore be manufactured and sold cheaply, as seen in supermarkets or discount chains.

You can find 2 apparently identical products with a 100% price difference and with the same effect, but one is produced for sporadic use the other for constant use. Cheque!

Customer-designed products

Products with specific features designed according to the customer’s needs. These winsches are by nature not stock items and a development and production time of 10-14 working weeks must be expected.

Wormgear

Mainly used in constructions up to 3000 kg.

Worm gears transmit a rotating motion around a shaft (the worm) to a slower rotating motion of a perpendicular shaft to which the worm gear is attached.

This gear type is used in towing and lifting winches with capacities above 3000kg.

The planetary gear set consists of three types of gears; a solar gear, a planetary gear, and a ring gear. The sun gear is located in the center, and the planetary gear that transmits torque is usually mounted on a movable mount. The planetary gear revolves around the sun wheel and engages with an outer ring wheel. The complexity of planetary gear systems ranges from very simple to complex composite systems, depending on the application.

Wire (Synthetic and Steel)

Synthetic wire rope is most often used as an alternative to the standard steel wire rope. The synthetic wire (Dyneema or other brands) has approx. 10% greater breaking strength than similar steel wire, and is of course stainless. Remember, there are many kinds of synthetic wire.

See a good comparison and explanation at this link

Steel wire rope components

A steel wire rope is made up of individual steel wires, which are joined together to form a cord part. A number of cord parts are wrapped around a central core for a finished steel wire. The mix of threads (dimension and number) should be a good combination of coarser threads against corrosion and wear, and finer threads for flexibility.

The construction of a steel wire rope is expressed as follows:

e.g.: 6X36-FC

6 is the number of strands in the wire36 is the number of strands in the cordFC is the type of core.

In standard products, Laubjerg Winch uses standard wires, which ensure that all legal requirements for tensile strength etc. are met.

The wire is laid double (pulley principle) whereby the traction is doubled and the speed is halved.

Throwing block

With a throwing block, the towing capacity is doubled, but the speed is halved.

Available in different sizes.
